Started in 1989 as geology office, Servizi per la Geologia is a laboratory for the preparation of thin sections used for the study under microscope of samples for geological, archaeological, agricultural research and architectural restoration.

Optical Mineralogy
In optical mineralogy and petrography, a thin section (or petrographic thin section) is a laboratory preparation from a sample of rock, mineral, soil, ceramic, or bone for use with a polarizing petrographic microscope, an electron microscope, and an electron microprobe. A small portion of rock is cut from the sample with a diamond blade and ground on an abrasive surface. It is then mounted on a glass slide and then sanded using a progressively finer abrasive grain until it reaches a thickness of just 30 μm.

Plagioclase, a crucial mineral in the formation of the Earth’s crust, represents a key element in petrology. This mineral becomes a fundamental diagnostic tool, allowing the composition, origin and evolution of igneous rocks to be identified.
By giving it a branding role, the intrinsic beauty of minerals and the complexity of igneous rocks is celebrated.

- Polarized Light
- Light that has been filtered so that the vibrations of the light waves are oriented in a specific direction. This process allows for sharper, more detailed images, especially when examining transparent or crystalline materials.
- Parallel and Crossed Nicols
- “Parallel Nicols” and “Cross Nicols” refer to the ways in which polarizing prisms are positioned within the microscope. With Parallel Nicols, the prisms are oriented in the same direction, while with Crossed Nicols they are arranged perpendicular to each other. These configurations offer different information on the structure and composition of the examined samples, contributing to a more complete and detailed view of the microscopic characteristics.
For the management of the Brand Identity I take care of shooting photographs of both the laboratory and the thin sections created.
Optical microscope photographs are captured using an adapter specially designed in collaboration with the laboratory owner. This adapter ensures the acquisition of high quality images, emphasizing the polarized light of the microscope with both Parallel Nicols and Crossed Nicols.
Calendar
2018 – today
Since 2018, every year I have been responsible for the creation of a free calendar gifted to the laboratory’s customers, which collects microscopic photographs of thin sections made specifically for the occasion.
In each month there are two options of the same section, one taken observing the thin section with Parallel Nicols and one with Crossed Nicols, so as to guarantee the expert eyes of customers a complete visualization of the sample.
